The Greek word “philoptochos” means “friend of the poor”. It is the mission of the Saint Philothei Philoptochos Society to be just that, a “friend to the poor”. The Society is made up of parishioners who offer their love, time, and sacrifice for not only the poor, but all who are in need. This includes the sick, the suffering, those experiencing financial hardship, and those in prison. It is in them that we may see our Lord Jesus Christ. Every member imitates the Society’s patron saint, St. Philothei, who dedicated her life by helping and supporting many of the poor and desolate citizens of Athens, not only by financial means, but by also offering consoling words of love and compassion. St. Philothei was a true living example of our Lord’s Holy Gospel.
Throughout the year, the St. Philothei Philoptochos holds events and fundraisers to help the “poor”. We encourage you to visit our parish and meet some of our members.
