Note from our Parish Nurse –   Spring 2023

“With such great joy does Christ fill our hearts this day by His Resurrection, not alone because He gives us the gladness of this day, but because He has also given us salvation through His Passion, immortality through His Death, healing for our wounds, and resurrection from our fall.”

St Proclus of Constantinople

Christ is Risen! Truly He is Risen!

Pray all are well and truly enjoying our blessed Pascal season with family and friends as well as our joyous parish family. This is truly the best time of year in our parish life. I can appreciate we have all gone through some trials and true tribulations this year, but we do have so much to be thankful for. And there are so many little babies it’s really a treasure and delight to watch our children grow in the faith.

I wanted to share some information on a situation that is fairly common with mothers after the birth of their babies. It’s called postpartum depression. Some contributing factors can be emotional as when you’re sleep deprived and overwhelmed you may have trouble handling even minor problems.  You may be anxious about your ability to care for a newborn. You may feel you’ve lost control of your life or your sense of identity.

There’s also a dramatic drop in your in your hormone levels that can contribute to feeling sluggish, tired and depressed. Also, if there is a family history of postpartum depression you might be more susceptible. If you feel depressed after your baby’s birth you might be reluctant or embarrassed to admit it. If you do have any symptoms like it seems to be getting worse or it’s making it hard to care for your baby or to complete everyday tasks or even thoughts of harming yourself, please call your health care provider as soon as possible as there is help and like I said, it is fairly common. Of course ask your spiritual Father for prayers.

Pray you have good strength and joy as we enter and share in our Lord’s Resurrection.

Christ is Risen, Truly He is Risen!

In Christ, Elizabeth Ashton, RN
