Greek School Staff

Athena Antonopoulos, a native of Veroia, Greece, has taught at St. Mark’s Greek School since it was first established in 1975. She has also been a teacher at the Boston and Norwood Public schools for many years. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from Simmons College and is currently enrolled in the Master’s program in Reading at Bridgewater State University. She is a translator for the Diocese of Boston and has translated many encyclicals and articles, as well as poems and short stories for the publications of the diocese. Her aptitude for the Greek language and her love for the Orthodox Faith, combined with her unique methods of teaching reading and writing through authentic texts from the feasts of the Church and the lives of the Saints, have encouraged students to become better readers and have empowered them to express their thoughts better when writing in Greek. She teaches sixth grade this year.

Chrysi Fitopoulos, a native from Greece who came to the United States when she was nine years old, was one of the first students who attended St. Mark’s Greek School and she was among its first graduates to join the teaching staff. Chrysi is a graduate from Burdett College and holds a degree as an Administrative assistant. She’s been an employee of the Norfolk Public Schools for 15 years.

She has worked tirelessly using her organizational and administrative skills for over thirty years to make St. Mark’s Greek school one of the leading Greek schools in the area. She has taught for more than twenty years and currently oversees the Greek School, plans class activities to promote cultural awareness and enrichment, extracurricular activities, the Greek Independence and commencement programs and the day to day running of St. Mark’s Greek School. This year, she is also assisting in the preschool/kindergarten and first grade classroom.

Athena Liousas is a recent graduate from Bridgewater State University with a Masters in Elementary Education. Athena participated in an intensive summer teacher preparation program to further her skills and techniques in the classroom. She aspires to utilize her new skills and passion for teaching bilingual education in the Greek school to promote an engaging and educational environment. In Athena’s spare time, she enjoys cooking and baking traditional Greek pastries and dishes for her family. Athena has worked for the Boston Public Schools, teaching 3rd grade.

Sonia Fitopoulos graduated from Bridgewater State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work. She graduated from St. Mark Greek School over a decade ago, but has worked both as an assistant and lead teacher since middle school. In addition to teaching, Sonia was also a part of the Metropolis Youth Dance Group for over a decade where she learned and performed traditional folk dances. She has a great passion for the Greek language, culture and art.

Vasiliki Grillas was born in Montreal, Canada, and moved to the United States when she was nine years old. She is a graduate of Socrates Greek School, and was awarded for her academic achievements in Miami, Florida. The year following her graduation, she returned to teach Greek to first, second and third grade students. Vasiliki graduated from Barry University with a degree in Elementary Education, and a certification in ESL. She obtained her Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. She has twelve years of teaching experience, and was a Lead Teacher at Mater East Academy prior to her move to Boston. She is now on her third year teaching Greek at St. Marks.

Nopie Panos has a Bachelor degree from Suffolk University and studied Liberal Arts at the American College of Thessaloniki. Her love of speaking Greek started from an early age, while spending over 20 summers in Greece with family and friends. She attended Greek School in Boston for eight years and graduated with honors. She currently works part-time at a private school where she enjoys working with children. When she is not working, she is spending time with her husband and three children. In her spare time she enjoys reading, writing and shopping.
