“Throw your weaknesses before God, and the Lord will become your strength.”
St Moses the Strong
Pray all are well and are enjoying our beautiful summer weather. We all enjoy being in the sun but some issues to be aware of are heat-related emergencies. These can be mild or life threatening. It’s important to recognize and treat these symptoms quickly as a person with mild signs can get worse rapidly.
Signs of heat-related emergencies are:
Muscle cramps, excessive sweating, weakness, dizziness, nausea, headache
Actions for heat related emergencies are to move the person to a cool or shady place, loosen or remove victims tight clothing, if they are able to sit up and swallow, encourage the person to drink water, sponge or spray them with cool (not ice cold) water, (do not put alcohol on the body) and fan the person.
Call 911 if any signs of heatstroke are present:
Confusion or strange behavior, vomiting, or inability to drink, vomiting, shallow breathing, seizures, or no response
Summer is a time for us to enjoy the great outdoors, but we also need to be vigilant as to our wellbeing and welfare. Remember to use sunscreen and stay hydrated! And as always if you feel any differences in your physical wellbeing, please contact your health care provider.
Pray you have a heathy and happy summer.
In Christ,
Elizabeth Ashton RN
